At the beginning of the evening, the coastguard rescued a drowning man from the sea between Texel and the island of Noorderhaaks with the help of a helicopter. That happened after an overturned canoe was found.
The canoe was found a few hundred meters off the coast of Texel, says a spokesman for the coastguard. The Coast Guard helicopter was then alerted, as were boats from the Royal Dutch Rescue Company.
The helicopter eventually found a person and lifted them out of the water. He then flew to the AFAS Stadium in Alkmaar, where ambulances were waiting. They took the drowning man to the hospital.
Search
The Coast Guard then continued to search for any other drowning victims. The emergency service was on the safe side, said the spokesperson. The search was called off around 8:30 p.m.
It is not yet known what the condition of the found drowning person is.
