Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann caused a stir among the volunteer fire brigade with a casual saying. He now apologized for his words – and found clear words for his team.
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann has apologized for his casual comment about the “voluntary fire department in Südgiesing” and emphasized that he didn’t want to discredit anyone. “I was only concerned with the word “voluntary”,” said Nagelsmann on Sky shortly before the top game on Saturday evening (6:30 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online) against Borussia Dortmund.
“I’m the last person to discredit volunteering or the fire department. I apologize to anyone who got it the wrong way.”
“Are not in the volunteer fire brigade”
Nagelsmann had said on Thursday during the press conference for the top game to motivate his team: “We are not with the volunteer fire brigade Südgiesing, but with FC Bayern Munich.” The coach explained on Saturday that he wanted to express that his players were employed – and in that sense not playing voluntarily.
He didn’t want to raise doubts about the motivation of the volunteer fire brigade. How this “performs” is “more than honorable, we need that in the country,” said Nagelsmann. “Why should I discredit the work of the fire department?”
