Club World Cup: Al-Ahly in the semifinals, Monterrey defeated

The Mexicans play the game, but they don’t score. The Egyptians on Tuesday will challenge Palmeiras to go to the final

Al-Ahly are the third semi-finalists of the Club World Cup. The most successful team in Egypt reaches Chelsea and Palmeiras and will face the South Americans for a place in the final on Tuesday, thanks to their success on Monterrey. The match was decided by Mohamed Hany’s goal in the 53rd minute, in one of the few occasions created: nice descent on the left wing of Ali Maaloul who crosses in the center, Andrada deflects the trajectory but the ball arrives on Hany’s feet who without thinking twice times he unloads a sharp right from the edge that slips between the goalkeeper and the defenders. The Mexicans dictate the pace of the game for large stretches (64% of ball possession), especially in the first half where they produce a decent push, but without finding the net. Aguirre also plays the card Joel Campbell, former Arsenal and Frosinone striker, for the final twenty minutes, but the move does not have the desired effects. There is also a bit of Italy, with Massimiliano Irrati designated as Var for this challenge.


Tomorrow, again in Abu Dhabi, the Asian champions of Al-Hilal and those of the host country, Al-Jazira, who have already passed the preliminary round against the representatives of Oceania (4-1 against the As Pirae of Tahiti). The winner of this match will face Chelsea in the semifinals on Wednesday. The race that will assign fifth place will also be held on the same day. On the other hand, the finals for third and first place have been set for February 12, respectively at 20:00 and 23:30 in Italy.
