Club wins Battle of Flanders

The Jan Breydel Stadium was completely full for the Battle of Flanders. Blauw-Zwart is fourth in the standings with barely 1 point more than the Buffalos. It became a fierce battle for a place in the top 4 and the associated Champions Play Offs. There was a lot of fuss before the game. Some vandals had defaced the goalposts and walls of the stadium. Graffiti was also sprayed on the field. This can still be seen at the start of the game, around the center spot it says 9K. That is a reference to 9000, the zip code of the city of Ghent.

Club dominated the opening fifteen minutes, but failed to open the score. After 25 minutes, Hendry had to leave injured. The Scottish defender was replaced by Sylla. Blue-Black gets away well around half an hour. Buchanan elbowed Orban in the face, but the American trembled for this action with impunity.

AFTER REST

The second half starts just like the first, with a fiercely sitting Club Brugge. Just after the break, Jutgla misses a great chance at 1-0, but a little later it is still a prize. Bjorn Meijer heads in the opening goal via the crossbar.

PENALTY

Just before the whistle, Yarmechuk goes down in the box. Hans Vanaken puts the 2-0 against the ropes from the spot. Club thus retains its fourth place in the standings.
