The betting scandal in Turkey continues to spread. Some clubs are particularly badly affected by this.

The Turkish fourth division club Agri Spor is losing its players. As Vice President Tekin Yusan told the state news agency Anadolu, the club currently only has seven players available for training. The reason: 17 players were banned in connection with the current betting scandal.

“At present, the management and coaching cadre is larger than the players,” Yusan said. The situation presents the club with major challenges. The plan is to fill the team with players from the U19 in the short term, said Yusan.

The background is a far-reaching betting scandal that has been affecting Turkish football for weeks. At the end of October, the Turkish association (TFF) made it public that a total of 152 referees were said to have actively bet. Players and clubs are also being investigated. Currently, 149 referees and more than 1,000 players are suspended for the duration of the investigation.

27 professionals from the Süper Lig are also affected, including players from top clubs Galatasaray and Besiktas Istanbul.
