Clothing is one of Europe’s most popular categories for online shopping

In most European countries, fashion and clothing was the most important product segment for online shopping in 2020, according to the annual study Europe Clothing B2C E-Commerce Market 2021 by Research and Markets.

In most European countries, consumer choice in online shopping has been centered on fashion and apparel. In the United Kingdom, according to a survey from October 2020, clothing ranks second in future online shopping preferences, as is the case in Germany. In Spain, the clothing segment was in first place. In Russia, apparel and shoes were the preferred option for online cross-border shopping, while in domestic B2C e-commerce apparel and shoes were the second most important category in 2020.

Amazon, Asos and Ebay are the most visited fashion websites in the UK, where textile, apparel and footwear B2C e-commerce growth is projected to reach nearly a quarter in 2021, due to the lockdowns in the country.

Online retailers are the first choice for purchasing clothing online

In Germany, B2C e-commerce sales in the clothing category recorded the highest year-on-year growth in the first quarter of 2021, ahead of other categories. Ukraine is also forecasting a gradual acceleration in online clothing purchases over the next few years, with B2C e-commerce sales expected to reach more than half a billion US dollars by 2023.

In 2020 and 2021, online retailers will primarily be used throughout Europe for online purchases of clothing items. In Germany and the UK, for example, an online retailer like Zalando led the selection of shopping websites in 2021, according to a February survey. In Ukraine, the leading fashion retail website was the local website Shafa, followed by local retailers such as Klubok and Kloomba.
