The MT Melsungen is in the quarter -finals of the European League after a hard fight against VfL Gummersbach. The title triple is still possible for the North Hesse.

The handball players of the MT Melsungen have struggled to the quarter -finals of the European League. On Tuesday evening, the Hesse not only prevailed in German duel against VfL Gummersbach with 29:25 (14:13), so they also caught up with the three-goal defeat of the 26:29 defeat. Overall: 55 to 54, it couldn’t be more scarce. With seven goals, Timo Kastening was the most successful thrower of the MT, who forced victory with a strong defense performance in the second half.

The decision to progress was actually only made in the Rothenbach-Halle in Kassel in the last few minutes. A quarter of an hour before the end, the Hesse had led the first time in the very balanced encounter with three goals, i.e. the overall result. Although MT professional Ian Barrufet just saw the red card in this phase, the home side now pulled the game to their side.

Captain Kastening in particular led the hosts with a strong performance. Eight minutes before the end, the MT then led four goals for the first time, the quarter -finals were now within reach. But it was trembled. Gummersbach did not give up, until the final minute, a seven-meter throw was also possible with a total center. But the MT kept its nerves – and deservedly won. This means that the title triple of European Cup, DHB Cup and championship is still possible for the North Hesse.
