Actor George Clooney, 60, and his wife Amal Clooney, 44, was awarded for the first time as a couple for her work on human rights last Tuesday on the Elevate Prize Foundation’s Youtube channel. Amal is a respected human rights lawyer who runs humanitarian affairs.
The Catalyst Award was given for inspiration for social change.
The two-time Oscar winner Clooney said in a speech that the Clooney Foundation for Justice is tasked with working to free the innocent and punish the perpetrators one case at a time.
The prize money of € 219,000 will be spent on the TrialWatch program, which monitors criminal trials around the world and defends those unfairly arrested, including journalists, women and members of minorities.
– The goal of our foundation is to release the innocent and punish the guilty. We are both inspired by young people who challenge injustice in their communities, a new generation that does not accept the idea that there is no need to change familiar practices, Clooney continued.
In December 2020, George said he felt lucky in many ways after meeting Amal, with whom he claims he had never had a dispute.
– Everyone has come together during the coronavirus and the relationships of many friends have been tested. It has been really easy for us, he has said.
Hollywood’s most coveted bachelor, Clooney, surprised many in 2014 by marrying Amalia. The couple married five months later.
He says their shared passion for equality and human rights has only strengthened their relationship.
– He succeeds in so many different ways and defends what he believes in, he told his wife.
– We didn’t fall in love because of our work, but it became something special that we can share. We are really lucky and we know that.
The organization they founded defends human rights abuses around the world. Clooney hopes for their four-year-old twins Alexander and Ella follow their example and take on the same things when they are adults.
