Hundreds of climate stickers demonstrated in Berlin on Saturday. Around midday they stood in several places on the Straße des 17. Juni in the Tiergarten, bringing traffic to a standstill.

The police quickly broke up a smaller blockade near the Victory Column and carried demonstrators off the street.

But then the officials held back: They viewed the action as a permissible gathering, as a loudspeaker announcement said after some time.

In recent days, the Last Generation group has called for a “mass occupation” of the Straße des 17. Juni. In addition to members of this group, including some from the Netherlands, supporters of Extinction Rebellion, Scientist Rebellion and the Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND) also demonstrated.

Banners read “Stop the fossil fuel madness, climate revolution now” or “Protecting the climate is not a crime”. There were no gluing actions to be seen.

The Berlin police had already shown a strong presence on the Straße des 17. Juni and around the Victory Column on Saturday before the action.
