For the “Last Generation” climate activists, the nationwide crackdowns are just an attempt to “silence” the group.
The climate protest group “Last Generation” wants to continue its actions even after a raid in several federal states. The government is trying to criminalize the group’s protest, said spokeswoman Carla Hinrichs on Tuesday evening on the sidelines of a joint demonstration by the left-wing scene in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
It scares her, but she won’t be intimidated by it. “What I cannot accept is that our government is trying to silence us,” Hinrichs told the German Press Agency. “The criminalization of peaceful protest is an attack on all of us,” Hinrichs said.
Police and prosecutors had searched eleven apartments and rooms belonging to members of the “Last Generation” in at least six federal states early Tuesday morning.
Raid on Carla Hinrichs too
According to the public prosecutor’s office in Neuruppin, investigations into disruption of public services and suspected formation of a criminal organization are being carried out. There was also a search at Hinrichs. She herself was in Berlin, she said.
“But my parents told me how it all happened. That they were woken up by flashlights in the garden – and then my room was searched,” she said.
