A possible relegation to the fourth division is getting closer and closer at FC Erzgebirge Aue, now there are the next personnel decisions for the Saxons, including another change of coach. Head coach Christoph Dabrowski and assistant Lars Fuchs have to leave. Sports director Michael Tarnat, who installed the trainers just two months ago, is also giving up his position.
“I very much regret leaving the Erzgebirge with this disappointing result of my activity and wish the friends’ club all the best,” explained Tarnat, who himself only took over responsibility for the traditional club that was threatened with relegation at the beginning of the year. In February he brought in Dabrowski, whom Tarnat knew from Hanover. At 96, Tarnat served as head of the youth department, Dabrowski worked as a youth coach for a long time and briefly as coach of the first team in 2022.
“Christoph Dabrowski, Lars Fuchs and Michael Tarnat have always been fully committed and have tried everything to get back on the road to success. The measures that have now been introduced are intended to set the course for a turnaround,” said Aue’s sports director Jens Haustein. With regard to Tarnat, a message on Sunday also spoke of different views on the sporting orientation.
On matchday 31, FC Erzgebirge Aue suffered another bitter home defeat on Saturday; 3:5 against the second team of TSG Hoffenheim. It was the seventh defeat in ten games under Dabrowski. The Violets only won under the Polish native in the national cup against amateur club SSV Progress Lichtenstein (10:0). In the 3rd league, a draw against Saarbrücken and Viktoria Köln only gave them two points at the start of Dabrowski’s term. Since mid-February there have only been defeats.
According to the club, this sporting development was “crucial” for the decision to release Dabrowski and Fuchs from their duties with immediate effect. The performance against Hoffenheim II was described as “terrifying”. Aue’s gap to safety could increase from nine to twelve points on Sunday if Saarbrücken wins its home game against Ingolstadt (4:30 p.m.).
