It was all not spectacular, but AZ is more than deserved to reach the quarterfinals of the KNVB Cup. The Alkmaarders beat FC Twente in Enschede with 2-1 after a deficit. It already marked the ninth win in a row for AZ.

The team of trainer Pascal Jansen was unable to translate the many ball possession in the first half into goals. The only goal before halftime that did fall from Jesper Karlsson was rejected due to offside. Unfortunately for AZ, there is no VAR present in this round of the cup tournament. This to the dismay of Dani de Wit. The midfielder thinks that is unprofessional at this level and clearly showed his dissatisfaction afterwards.

Fortunately, AZ repaired the damage later in the second half and Jansen’s men go through to the quarterfinals. On Saturday, the Alkmaarders will hear who the opponent is in the next round of the cup tournament. It is already certain that it will be an away game.
The next game in the competition is also scheduled for Saturday. At home, AZ will compete against Cambuur Leeuwarden.
