After the last four wins in a row, the upward trend of RW Essen ends in the 3rd league with a painful home defeat against 1. FC Saarbrücken.
On Saturday (April 26th, 2025) Saarbrücken, RWE had to give up 0: 3 (0: 2) on Saturday. With an early (6th minute) and a late (45.+2) goal, the team of coach Uwe Koschinat fell behind in the first half. Shortly after the restart, the guests made 0: 3 (50th) for the preliminary decision against overall offensive, Essener.
With 49 points, RWE is still as good as saved. Saabrücken pushed in third place with 59 points and continues to play three game days before the end for the promotion to the 3. League – or at least the relegation.
Sontheimer meets Saarbrücken early
The FCS took the lead with the first attack. After a ball loss from Gjasula, the guests quickly played forward. Patrick Sontheimer then had a half right and hit the net with a nice inclined shot for 0-1. As a result, RWE difficult to build up pressure against defensively well -stocked Saarlanders.
At most, according to standards, the hosts managed an approximate goal approach. Saarbrücken did not often appear in front of the RWE gate – but if so, then dangerous. After a crossed flank, Krüger was released at an eleven meter in front of the goal. Wienand was just able to clarify the unplaced shot by foot defense (29th).
Hardly Essen goal opportunities
A little later also had Eat A good scene, but Arslan (38th) failed freely in front of FCS goalkeeper Menzel. For this, the FCS followed in added time in the first half. After an advance over the right side, the flank found the second post Calogero Rizzuto, which headed out in the goal for 2-0.
Shortly afterwards, the ball was even in the RWE goal for the third time, but the referee recognized foul game to goalkeeper Wienand (45.+4). Saarbrücken continued immediately after the restart. Krüger still missed the first good advance (48th). But then the second sat. After a cross from the left, the Essen back team including Wienand lost the overview and Maurice Multaup pressed the ball into the goal to 3-0.
Saarbrücken with ways to add
Essen didn’t get on track at all. Saarbrücken belonged to the next few minutes and the guests could have increased further. It was only in the final phase that the hosts approached the FCS goal a little better through an Arslan shot (75th) or an attempt by Müsel (76.). The Koschinat team no longer scored a hit.
BVB on Saturday away
