Viktor Claesson is another player who left FK Krasnodar after Russia invaded Ukraine. The contract of the 30-year-old left winger from Sweden was terminated by mutual agreement, the Russian first division club said. “FC Krasnodar would like to thank Viktor Claesson for his contribution to the success of the club and wish him the best of luck in his future career,” the club said in a statement.

“It got very hectic. It started with the coaches leaving and all the foreign players wanted to leave too. It felt like a sinking ship,” Claesson told the Swedish newspaper “Sportbladet”. “Krasnodar at that time was a big football club. They understood that this is a very special situation and they let us players go home without penalty.”

Most recently, head coach Daniel Farke and his assistants as well as numerous foreign players around ex-Bundesliga striker Jhon Córdoba (28) left FK Krasnodar – the professionals initially without terminating their contracts. Claesson joined the Premier League club from Elfsborg in January 2017 and made 147 appearances (43 goals, 31 assists) for them.
