City council of Coevorden parks decision on refurbishing parking deck

“We are not talking about a packet of sugar,” said alderman Steven Stegen. If we look at the cost, then that comment is correct. Both sugar and this parking deck cannot withstand water, but refurbishing the parking deck at the De Gansehof shopping center costs significantly more: about 1.3 million euros.

The council sees that it is necessary, but does not wholeheartedly make the money available.

The leaks in the parking deck will finally be addressed, is the intention. After some haggling between owner Kroonenberg Groep and the municipality of Coevorden about responsibility, the latter is now paying for the repair: there will be a completely new parking deck.

The municipality has examined various offers and options, but has come to the conclusion that the repair of the parking deck must be carried out thoroughly and properly. This means that it will cost a lot of money, namely 1.32 million euros. “With minimal maintenance, we run the risk of new liability,” is an argument from the municipality.
