The French company confirms the return of the 2CV as part of the Stellantis FaSTLAne 2030 plan. The new generation will be electric, accessible and inspired by the original spirit of the famous French small car
One of the most iconic models in automotive history is about to return. This was announced by Citroën, as part of the Stellantis FaSTLAne 2030 strategic plan. In the medium-term horizon of the Franco-Italian group there is also the famous 2CVwhich as has already happened with other models of the past that have returned to new life, such as the Renault 5, will be declined in an electric key. Citroën anticipates that it will not be a simple reinterpretation of the 2CV, the operation aims to propose a “new vision of democratic mobility: electricsimple, versatile and desirable”. At the moment, there are very few precise details on the project, a sign that the timeframe may not be short (we are talking about 2028). We will know more at the Paris motor show in October, where Citroën has promised to reveal further details.
FOR EVERYONE

The impression however, as we have already underlined, is that the new Citroën 2CV will resume the spirit of the original project produced for almost forty years. The expectations are for an economical electric car, a car that takes up the challenge launched by Brussels on low-cost, zero-emission citizens. “Reinventing the 2CV of tomorrow is an enormous challenge and responsibility – admitted Xavier Chardon, Citroën’s number one -. The original 2CV was not designed to become an icon. It became one because it gave people freedom. The new 2CV will carry forward the same spirit and not through nostalgia, but by reinventing simplicity and accessibility for today’s world.”
RETURN TO THE ESSENTIAL
—
The new Citroën 2CV will be faithful to the TPV concept, acronym for Très Petite Voiturei.e. “very small car”, which gave life to the original project. “True innovation – explained Stellantis in recent days – does not consist in adding more, but in improving people’s lives”. From the new 2CV will be born a new category of electric vehicles small and affordable. “It is the return of a bold and optimistic idea of progress. A profoundly Citroën idea,” promised Chardon.
