Hundreds of volunteers have been active again for this twentieth edition. Today, about 200 of them are walking on the TT Circuit to steer everything in the right direction; From people in shuttle buses, to people who face painting and racers. Due to the temperature above thirty degrees, additional shadow spots, fans and water spray are arranged.
“It is a very vulnerable target group, you have to pay attention, be careful and take good care of it,” says chairman of the Against Cancer Patrick Boxem Foundation. “At the same time, it is a target group that also knows that they are vulnerable. In general, these kinds of families, a child is sick, are very well prepared. For example, you don’t have to explain to them that they always have to take sunburn.”
According to the organization, this twentieth edition is one of the most busy editions. Children who have (had) cancer are welcome until when they want. “Cancer does not stop after treatment,” explains Boxem. “Often you have been bothered for years. So the families can come for years until they have something like dude, the normal life has started again, we just continue. Then they actually stop automatically.”
