It is not the intention to just leave the tree near an underground waste container somewhere. “It is prohibited to dump trees on the street or at container squares,” says a spokesperson for waste collector Spaarnelanden. “It is a fire hazard and creates a mess. That attracts other litter.”

Moreover, it is difficult to empty the containers when there are Christmas trees all around them. Therefore, hand in the tree neatly.

Haarlem, Spaarndam and Zandvoort

Spaarnelanden is responsible for processing the many Christmas trees in Haarlem, Spaarndam and Zandvoort. The trees are ultimately shredded and the chips are turned into compost.

Children up to and including 15 years old can return the trees on Wednesday 8 and Wednesday 15 January 26 different places in Haarlem neighborhoods. For each tree they receive fifty cents and a raffle ticket, with which they have a chance to win a gift voucher. Furthermore, the tree can be handed in every day at the environmental square in the Waarderpolder.

Spaarnelanden will collect the trees in Zandvoort on Wednesday afternoon, January 8. This takes place on our own grounds on Kamerlingh Onnestraat and on Schuitengat behind the supermarket. In Bentveld the trees can be taken to Bramenlaan. In Zandvoort, children up to the age of fifteen also receive a raffle ticket and fifty cents per tree.
