Former Red Bull team boss Christian Horner could soon return to Formula 1 as a co-owner. Entry is decided by a double reservation.
Former Red Bull team boss Christian Horner is negotiating to join Alpine as a co-owner. The basis is the planned sale of the 24 percent package of the investor group led by Otro Capital. Renault holds the majority and has to accept a buyer, said Alpine chief advisor Flavio Briatore in Barcelona.
The investor group includes Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds and NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Media quoted Briatore on the sidelines of the presentation of the new Formula 1 Alpine car. “There are some groups that are interested in buying the 24 percent.”
But consultant Briatore also described the hurdles Horner would have to overcome: “First you have to buy the Otro share, then Renault has to accept the buyer, and then we’ll see what happens.” To Horner he simply said: “I’ve known Christian for many years, I talk to Christian anyway, but that has nothing to do with me.”
Horner was most recently linked to the team boss position at Aston Martin. He should want to have more say in team issues in the future. Since 2005, Red Bull has won eight drivers’ titles and six constructors’ titles under his leadership. He denied allegations by a female employee of allegedly inappropriate behavior. An independent investigation exonerated him. A form crisis and disputes at management level this season cost him his job in July.
Horner will also be in Australia ahead of the first Grand Prix of the year on March 8th in Melbourne. He speaks in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth about his time in Formula 1.
