A long-cherished wish is coming true for comedian and presenter Christel de Laat. She has created a carnival song that she hopes everyone will have as much fun with as she did when she was working on it. Carnival starts months in advance with the creation and then the itch automatically starts.
The song can be heard at Spotify and is called ‘Under the rivers’. The special thing about this song is that it was made by Brabanders and Limburgers with a big heart for carnival.
In addition to Christel, the Brabant singer Björn van der Doelen and the Limburg duo Träcksack can also be heard in the song. “As so often happens, it starts with a ‘crazy’ idea,” says Christel, who says he can sing, but is not a singer.
Last year Christel made a TV series together with Bart Storcken about carnival in Limburg and Brabant. The repeats of this program, O(n)s Feest, can now be seen every Tuesday evening on Omroep Brabant. “It is perhaps the most beautiful program I have ever worked on,” says Christel.
“I can sing but I’m not a singer.”
“By taking each other along in the Brabant and Limburg carnival, we felt our shared passion. In Brabant, the float builders have been carpentry and welding for months. In Limburg, a lot of time and love goes into the carnival fun, not to mention the make-up,” says Christel enthusiastic.
In that shared enjoyment of carnival the question naturally arose; Wouldn’t it be fun to make a carnival song yourself? “The answer was of course immediately yes!”, says Christel. I was allowed to bring a musician from Brabant and Bart also did the same with Tren van Enckevoort, also known from Rowwen Hèze. Bart and Tren together also form the musical duo Träcksack.
“We among the rivers know how to throw a festival of celebrations.”
The song is about Brabant and Limburg and our shared love for carnival. “We among those rivers know how to throw a party, we work towards it for a long time, touch each other with music and are recognizable by our soft G,” Christel explains the content of the song ‘Under the Rivers’.
If the song ‘Under the Rivers’ becomes a carnival hit, you will not see the artists perform live. “That is a bit difficult logistically,” Christel explains. “I present all carnival days live from the Fijnfisjenie Café. Björn van der Doelen celebrates carnival himself. And those two Limburgers are of course carnivals in Limburg.”
Those who can’t get enough of this party of all parties can indulge themselves every Tuesday evening where the six repeats of O(n)s Party are broadcast. New episodes will be added from Tuesday February 2. The replays can also be found on the Omroep Brabant website.
