Instead of being able to freely enjoy the music, Chrissie Hynde fans were recently confronted with concert rules. The musician has now apologized for this – at least partially.
The fairy tale about free choice of seats
The Pretenders frontwoman’s requirements affected fans who attended more than one concert on her tour. Anyone who comes multiple times should stay away from the front row, according to the order. So local fans should have a chance to be at the front. “When we go on tour, the whole reason is to play for a different crowd every night. That’s why we’re doing this!” was Chrissie Hynde’s original justification. This didn’t go down well with fans. If you buy a ticket with free standing room, you should be able to stand wherever you want.
“Come on everyone… but be fair.”
Chrissie Hynde now again addressed the dissenting voices that her order had provoked. The musician used a new post to make several apologies. “I would like to emphasize that we are happy when people keep coming back,” says a new statement from the singer and guitarist. “But we travel the world to play to new audiences every night, so it’s good to see the locals up front.” This repetition of her first statement was followed by conciliatory words: “Come on everyone… but be fair.”
Chrissie Hynde: More (half) apologies
The musician also referred to requests for fans to leave their cell phones in their pockets during concerts. “I’m sorry I never got used to the phone/film/photo culture,” Chrissie Hynde wrote. “I insulted and cursed the audience that was there for us. There is no way to explain how distracting this is and why I have a nervous breakdown when I see a phone. Every night I come off stage berating myself and telling myself that it’s just not worth it and that maybe it’s time to hang up the guitar and find a new calling.” She pointed out, not to be alone with this classification. After all, there would be entire concert venues that would ban phones.
