Chloé Chevalier didn’t just use the New Year to wish her followers all the best on Instagram. She also announced the end of her career on Saturday.
The biathletes are actually currently on break and will start again in Oberhof on January 9th. But shortly after the turn of the year, a French woman announced that she was ending her career. Chloé Chevalier surprisingly announced the end of her sporting career on Instagram on Saturday.
The 29-year-old wrote: “It is time for me to start a new chapter in biathlon. I have lived this extraordinary adventure 1000%; with ups and downs, with phases of doubt and intense joy, with formative encounters and unforgettable ones moments.”
Chevalier made her World Cup debut in 2015 and was part of the French team for years. Even though she did not compete in the World Cup this season, her retirement from sport comes as a surprise. The athlete became European individual and pursuit champion in 2018. In the sprint she became vice-European champion in the same year.
The first photo that Chevalier posted with her statement shows the French biathlete alone in a snow-covered landscape. The sun shines in the cloudless sky, surrounded by a mountain backdrop and dense forests. With ski poles in hand, Chevalier looks into the distance, her silhouette casting a long shadow on the snow.
Chloé Chavalier ended her announcement with the words: “I have made friends for life. I can’t ask for anything better. Thank you to all the people who have helped me on this journey, accompanied me, followed me, supported me, encouraged me.” Chevalier shared part of her biathlon journey with her sister Anaïs Chevalier-Bouchet. The 31-year-old ended her career two years ago and won silver in the individual at the 2022 Olympic Games.
German biathlete and current World Cup leader Franziska Preuß wrote under Chloé Chevalier’s post: “Congratulations on your career and enjoy life.” The Swede Mona Brorsson also said: “Only the best for your future.” The Norwegian biathlete Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold also reported. She commented: “Good luck on the next chapter!! The best is yet to come.”
