Two-time German Vice Champion Frederic Wandres won the first dressage test at the CHIO in Aachen.
The 35-year-old, a rider at Hof Kasselmann in Hagen am Teutoburg Forest, won the Prix St. Georges with Quizmaster ahead of Ingrid Klimke (Münster) with Freudentanzer. Wandres and Klimke are part of national coach Monica Theodorescu’s Nations Cup team. The team competition at five-star level begins on Thursday with the Grand Prix.
The Prix St. Georges is the international test with the lowest requirement profile and primarily serves as an entry point for younger horses into the big sport.
Schneider finishes eleventh and retires from Showtime
The two-time team Olympic champion Dorothee Schneider (Framersheim) came eleventh with the nine-year-old stallion Flashback. Schneider had previously withdrawn her top horse, Showtime, from the CHIO, thereby also sealing her departure from the World Championships in Herning in August. The horse was “not as fresh” as it was last time at the German championships and in training, according to a statement from the Germans Equestrian Federation (FN) on Wednesday. “It’s bitter, especially for Dorothee,” said national coach Monica Theodorescu.
Lisa Müller, wife of national soccer player Thomas Müller, did not get past twelfth and penultimate place in the Prix St. Georges with the only eight-year-old Westphalian gelding Chuck Bass.
