After the dressage victory, the German team in jumping under floodlights clearly missed first place at the Chio in Aachen.
In the nation prize of the world’s largest riding tournament, the team from national coach Otto Becker rode fourth in front of 40,000 spectators in the stadium. “Of course we expected more,” commented Becker. “There was more in it.”
Almost seven hours after the sovereign victory of the home team in dressage, the Equipe from the USA secured first place in the one million euro jumping. Belgium came second behind.
It started in the evening for the German team single Olympic champion Christian Kukuk. The 35 -year -old rider from Riesenbeck started with a flawless round in the saddle of Cepano. “I’m super satisfied,” Kukuk commented on his ride. “The result speaks for itself, but the way was really convincing and makes me happy.” But in the second round he experienced a decent fright.

Before the triple combination, Cepano refused to jump, slid half into the obstacle. Kukuk had to ride again. The second attempt it worked better, but the recently strong rider collected plenty of time errors and reached the finish line with 13 penalty points. “It goes on my cap, I left him alone,” said Kukuk: “High -respect as he mastered it afterwards.”
Kukuk followed the German team Hans-Dieter Dreher with Elysium. The 53-year-old from Eimeldingen failed with his mold on the last obstacle of the first round, but remained extremely cool. In the second circulation, Dreher confidently rode with his mold and left the stadium happy. “It was a great round,” commented Dreher: “In the first, Elysium was good too, but not that.”
Not a nice debut for Sophie Hinners
Sophie Hinner experienced a disastrous debut with Combella. The 27-year-old debutante in the CHIO team rode out of the course after eight penalty points in the first round and eleven in the second. “Of course I would have liked a more beautiful debut,” commented the rider from Pfungstadt.
Jana Wargers showed how it works with Dorette. The 33-year-old from Emsdetten rode flawlessly with her horse in both rounds. She was accordingly happy “that I could deliver”.
