After the eventing competition at the CHIO, Michael Jung could only be happy about first place for a short time. He subsequently received penalty points, so victory went to Sandra Auffarth.
Jung lay with his top horse on Saturday (July 2nd, 2022). chipmunk initially six points ahead of Auffarth Viamant you Matz and the three-time team Olympic champion Andrew Hoy (Australia) with Vassily de Lassos. Kemperman explains: “Shoulder was not between flags”
“The judges looked at the pictures taken by the obstacle judge again many times on a big screen”, said tournament director Frank Kemperman on WDR. “They noticed: The horse’s shoulder was not between the flags. And that means: He did not cross the jump as it should.”
Kemperman explained that it took a long time before the result was known: “There was no protest. But the judges said: Please give us a moment to look at it carefully. That’s fair for the sport.”
Auffahrt is happy about the video evidence
Auffarth said in the WDR interview that she was still “A bit confused. What is certain is that I had a super good cross-country lap. Of course I’m also totally happy that I won. That we’ve come to the point where we can take a good look at the video analysis and make a really fair decision in the end can – that’s what we all want. A fair sport with fair decisions.”
Great Britain measure of all things – Klimke with void result
In the team classification, Germany finished second, well behind last year’s winner, Great Britain. The discarded result was delivered by the European Champion Ingrid Klimke (Münster), of all people, whose mare Siena just do it had a by-runner and thus fell far behind in time.
Best team rider was Auffarth Viamant you Matz ahead of Olympic champion Julia Krajewski (Warendorf). Amande de B’Neville and Jung with his young horse Kilcandra Ocean Power.
Stallion “Allstar” is euthanized after an accident
The cross-country ride was overshadowed by a serious accident involving the horse all star by world champion Rosalind Canter (Great Britain). all star had lost his left front leg after a failed jump. There was no fall, the 17-year-old Allstar may have hit his leg against an obstacle.
Tournament director Kemperman delivered the bad news on WDR. “Unfortunately, the clinic had to determine that the injury could no longer be operated on. The owners have decided that the horse will be euthanized. This is of course very bad news.”
