China’s electric car manufacturer BYD is building its first plant in Europe in Hungary

BUDAPEST (dpa-AFX) – The Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD will build its first factory on European soil in Hungary. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced this on Friday in Budapest. The production facility will be built in the southern Hungarian city of Szeged and employ several thousand people.

It is one of the largest investments in Hungarian history, added Szijjarto. He did not mention a specific investment amount. Hungary is also a popular location for German premium car manufacturers. Audi and Mercedes (Mercedes-Benz Group (ex Daimler)) produce electric cars or engines in their Hungarian factories. BMW also wants to produce electric cars at its factory under construction in Debrecen, eastern Hungary./gm/DP/mis
