Mobile applications in China decided to check for security and “socialist values”

China has proposed to conduct a security audit of those applications that can influence public opinion and “participate in the mobilization of society.” From mid-February, sites planning an IPO will also be subject to verification.

Cyberspace Administration of China, National Cybersecurity Regulator, published draft rules for mobile applications.

According to the new requirements, applications that can influence public opinion and “participate in the mobilization of society” will have to undergo a safety assessment, the document says.

The draft rules also state that the owners of applications and platforms must follow the Constitution and Chinese laws, “adhere to the correct political course” and “promote basic socialist values.” Applications should not be used to “threaten national security, disrupt public order, legal rights or interests of others.”

The regulator will check applications, including for “hidden data security risk”. Resources that violate the rules will face warning or suspension.
