The Dutch record was held by Emmen, where a total of 2,190 shoes were placed.
The Purmerend shoes were placed along a special route. It started at the Eggert Shopping Center and walked via the Schoolsteeg towards the Nicolaaskerk, to make a circle around it.
The route then continued towards the Cheese Market. On that square the children could also make their own shoe, get a Piet diploma and dance along with all the Pietjes on the square. And of course the shoes were generously filled afterwards by Saint Nicholas and his Pieten.
