No illusions, but a real pink grasshopper. “It is a kind of mutation of the gene that makes the grasshopper turns red rather than brown or green. We call that erytrism,” says researcher Robbe Cool of UGent.
It is a rare deviation, but you still find the locusts regularly. The insects are easy prey because of their pink color.
