A 66-year-old man from Almere, who worked as a substitute at a daycare center in Amsterdam, is suspected of committing sexual offenses with several children. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) reported this in a press release on Monday. The man was arrested at the end of November after the father of a two-year-old girl filed a report against him. The man has been in pre-trial detention since then.

The suspect allegedly took the girl on his lap and touched her lewdly. This happened on the first day that the man worked as a substitute at the daycare center, according to the Public Prosecution Service. The daycare center immediately terminated its collaboration with the man after the report.

After the report, the Amsterdam police started an investigation into the man, and data carriers were seized from his home. Based on that investigation, the man is also suspected of having lewdly touched a then thirteen-year-old boy and of taking nude photos of two other children (a three-year-old boy and a baby). Het Parool reports that the photo of the baby was taken at the suspect’s home while he was babysitting the child.

The Public Prosecution Service has further announced that in addition to these four children, another nine children fell victim to the suspect. The investigation into the criminal offenses against these children is still ongoing. The parents of all thirteen children have now been informed.

The Public Prosecution Service sees no indications that the man distributed the nude photos of the children. He also appears to have acted alone. The suspect will appear in court on March 11 for the first pro forma hearing.
