Child benefit will increase in the coming years due to high inflation | NOW

Child benefit will still be indexed for the next two years, the cabinet reported on Friday. Originally, the intention was not to let the benefit increase in line with inflation for two years. But because the same inflation is now historically high, the government has decided to do this anyway.

The cabinet decided this after several parties had submitted a motion in the Senate requesting that the original measure be reversed.

“Many families are having a hard time due to the current inflation”, the cabinet acknowledges. “The regular increase in child benefit is welcome right now. That is why we have decided to put an end to the plans.”

In the coming years, child benefits will be adjusted, as usual, twice a year in line with inflation.

With the savings, the previous cabinet wanted to give more money to the implementing organizations UWV and SVB. It also wanted to extend parental leave. Money has now been made available in a different way for the UWV and SVB.
