The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, has been officially suspended over allegations of sexual misconduct. An ICC supervisory body, consisting of 21 members, announced on Monday that the suspension would take effect immediately.
Khan took a step back last May and announced that he would go on leave due to the investigation into him for alleged sexual misconduct.
The administrative body that announced the suspension said that the 125 member states affiliated with the criminal court will consider the fate of the 56-year-old British Khan ‘as soon as possible’ during a special meeting. Then he might also be fired.
At the end of 2024, allegations emerged that Khan had misbehaved with an employee of the Hague-based court for a long time. Khan has openly denied the allegations and himself called for an investigation.
Although the investigation has now been completed, the governing body is not sharing any details about the case.
