The Chief Prosecutor of the Central Netherlands Justice Department, Rutger Jeuken, has transferred responsibility for protecting the loved ones of crown witness Nabil B. in the Marengo trial. Write that the parole and de Volkskrant Monday. B.’s family would have called for this, because they do not feel safe under Jeuken. In the Marengo trial, the brother, the lawyer and the confidant of the crown witness were previously killed.

In a letter sent to the Public Prosecution Service on March 6 and in the hands of the parole and de Volkskrant, an anonymous family member of the key witness writes: “My family is not safe and does not feel safe under the current public prosecutor Central Netherlands. You are responsible for all abuses, incidents and security failures in recent years.” The family member therefore does not dare to rule out the chance that a fourth fatal victim will fall under Jeuken’s supervision. According to de Volkskrant Jeuken responded in a letter to the family on Friday, in which he announces that he will hand over the security task “in the short term” and says he “regrets” that the family does not feel safe.

Jeuken’s decision is related to the criticism expressed by the Dutch Safety Board (OVV) at the beginning of this month in a report on the security of the three fatal victims around the key witness. It concerns his brother Reduan, his lawyer Derk Wiersum and his confidant Peter R. de Vries. According to the OVV, the security of the key witness and the people around him has been subordinated to the investigative interest for the Public Prosecution Service.
