Cher, Questlove and Phoebe Bridgers are emotional about the leaked Supreme Court vote

By means of many intimate postings, many musicians are currently protesting against the US Court’s plan to abolish abortion rights in the United States.

Based on her own biography, Californian singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers supports the Roe v. wade out. This is a landmark decision on abortion rights made by the US Supreme Court in 1973. It affirmed a woman’s constitutional right to choose whether to terminate or continue her pregnancy.

Phoebe Bridgers revealed via Twitter that she had an abortion while on tour in October 2021. “I went to Planned Parenthood and got the abortion pill. It was easy. Everyone deserves that kind of access.”

In the tweet, the musician also refers to calls for donations.

Cher also reveals her stance on the subject. The singer sharply criticizes Republican politicians and writes about the social repression and statements her mother was already confronted with:

“My mother said, ‘When I was young, I heard things like ‘keep them barefoot and pregnant,’ ‘women belong in the stove,’ ‘women don’t have business acumen,’ and ‘death from illegal abortion.'”

Questlove, drummer for the band The Roots, compares current events to the dystopian series The Handmaid’s Tale. He also calls for registering for the midterm elections and thus voting in the “midterm elections” – the elections to the US Congress for which Democrats and Republicans compete for seats:

Since Tuesday evening it has been known from a document leak that the US Supreme Court is planning to overturn the right to abortion, the Supreme Court wants to overturn the Roe v. Wade from 1973 tilt. The basis for the research is a 98-page draft statement by Judge Samuel Alito.

Discussions about women’s self-determination have flared up again, especially since the introduction of further restrictions in the state of Texas last year. In Texas, women are rarely allowed to have an abortion after the sixth week of pregnancy.
