Chelsea FC probably failed on Deadline Day with a million-dollar offer for Romeo Lavia

Most expensive “Saints” access until 18

A busy deadline day lies behind Chelsea FC: The Blues strengthened their attack on Thursday with former Dortmund player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (33) and in defensive midfield with ex-Gladbacher Denis Zakaria (25), after efforts to win Ajax, among others Amsterdam’s Edson Álvarez (24) failed. As “The Athletic‘ and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano report, Roméo Lavia from Southampton FC was also a candidate for this position.

Accordingly, the “Saints” without hesitation rejected an offer from the Londoners for the 18-year-old in the amount of 50 million pounds, the equivalent of around 57.8 million euros, as they see Lavia as one of the best talents in defensive midfield in the world. The right foot was only signed by Manchester City’s U21s in July. Cost point for Lavia, who signed until 2027: 12.3 million euros. According to reports, a further EUR 4.1 million in bonuses can also be added. Even with the base fee, the Belgian U21 international is the most expensive signing up to the age of 18 in Southampton FC.

According to the portal, the youngster is still highly regarded at Man City, which is why the English champions are said to have secured a buyback clause as part of the deal. He had been trained with the “Citizens” since 2020 after coming to Manchester from the youth team of RSC Anderlecht and made two appearances for the professionals.

For Southampton, Lavia, who was featured in Transfermarkt’s talent calendar last winter, made his debut on Matchday 1 at Tottenham Hotspur when he played 90 minutes. He also scored his debut goal in the Premier League against Chelsea. He has played five games in total so far, missing only on Saturday at Wolverhampton Wanderers due to a thigh problem.
