The very rich Premier League club FC Chelsea spared no expense or effort this season to achieve sporting success. The Blues are said to be thinking about a change of team manager again. The focus is on none other than Hansi Flick.
According to media reports, national coach Hansi Flick is on Chelsea’s wish list. “Bild” confirmed speculation from England that circulated after a visit to the stadium by the former Bayern coach.
Flick watched the Premier League game between Chelsea FC and Fulham FC (0-0) last Sunday and was caught by cameras in the stands. Rumors quickly spread that Flick was visiting for possible negotiations with the Chelsea bosses and could therefore soon succeed Graham Potter on the bench.
Potter, in turn, only followed Thomas Tuchel last September and was given a contract until 2027. According to his ideas, Chelsea had invested more than 300 million euros in newcomers in the winter transfer window alone, who should quickly turn the current ninth place in the table into a championship contender again.
Middleman approached Hansi Flick?
According to “Bild”, Hansi Flick has a good reputation in England. Before his signature in the summer of 2021 with the DFB, another club from London had already reached out to the 57-year-old in Tottenham Hotspur. Talks were held at the time, but Flick ultimately decided against a job with Spurs.
The national coach also maintained “good contacts” with Chelsea in the past, when Marina Granovskaia was still pulling the strings in the Blues’ management. Since then, Flick has always been in the spotlight at Chelsea.
During the most recent visit to the stadium in London, Chelsea FC is said not to have made direct contact, but according to “Bild” information, an intermediary still felt whether Flick could imagine an engagement.
However, German fans need hardly fear a move from DFB to Chelsea: Flick said no, his contract as national coach is still valid until 2024. The reason for the visit to the stadium was very simple: National player Kai Havertz is under contract with FC Chelsea, and substitute goalkeeper Bernd Leno is in goal at FC Fulham.
