Chelsea FC brings in Marya Ramírez, setting a record transfer

Chelsea FC has set a record transfer in British women’s football with the signing of Mayra Ramírez. It could even become a world record.

England champions Chelsea FC have secured a record transfer in British women’s football with the signing of Colombian Mayra Ramírez. According to English media, the “Blues” paid 450,000 euros to the Spanish club UD Levante. This makes the attacker the most expensive addition to the Women’s Super League (WSL) to date, ahead of Jill Roord, who moved from VfL Wolfsburg to Manchester City last year for around 350,000 euros.

Including the negotiated bonuses of 50,000 euros, Ramirez (24) could even set a world record. Since the departure of English European champion Keira Walsh from ManCity to FC Barcelona in the summer of 2022, it has stood at 400,000 pounds (around 460,000 euros).

In London, Ramirez will be a teammate of the German trio Ann-Katrin Berger, Sjoeke Nüsken and Melanie Leupolz; she signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the league leaders. Chelsea recently had to cope with the long-term loss of star striker Sam Kerr. The Australian suffered a torn cruciate ligament at the beginning of the year.
