In the Women’s Champions League, Chelsea FC narrowly failed against Arsenal FC. After the game, the coach still had a need for discussion.
Curious scene after the Women’s Champions League game between Chelsea FC and Arsenal FC (1-0). Chelsea coach Sonia Bompastor gives a TV interview – and suddenly pulls out her cell phone during the conversation.
Your goal: to support a controversial scene with the right images – and to show that referee Frida Klarlund Nielsen made a wrong decision.
“I brought my cell phone with me and I don’t know if you saw that,” Bompastor introduces as she waves her cell phone towards the camera and the audience. “For me, that’s a clear red card for the Arsenal player. She’s pulling on Alyssa’s (Thompson, editor’s note) hair. If the VAR isn’t able to check the situation again, I don’t know why we even have the VAR.”
Sonia Bompastor was so upset by the scene in the final minutes that Frida Klarlund Nielsen first showed her a yellow card and shortly afterwards a yellow-red card. The German international Sjoeke Nüsken had just scored to give Chelsea a 1-0 win (90+4).
In the end it wasn’t enough, Arsenal won the quarter-final first leg a week ago 3-1 – and could now face VfL Wolfsburg in the semi-finals. Wolfsburg will face Olympique Lyon in the second leg on Thursday; the Wolves won the first leg at home 1-0. The semi-finals of the Champions League will take place from April 25th, the final will take place on May 23rd in Oslo.
