Super Mario returns to cinemas. After the first western movie from the Mushroom Kingdom flopped in the 90s, Nintendo hesitated for a long time to release Mario on screens again. But now the time has come: Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment have released the first trailer for “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”.

Many well-known characters from the game series can be seen in the trailer: In addition to Mario himself, the villain Bowser and the mushroom-headed Toad also appear. Mario’s sweetheart, Princess Peach, doesn’t appear in the trailer, but will also play a role in the film.

Many well-known actors can be heard in the English original: Bowser, for example, is voiced by Jack Black, Princess Peach by Anya Taylor-Joy. The cast of Mario with Chris Pratt caused the most discussion – many fans thought that the voice of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” star did not fit the cute Italian plumber with the famous exclamation “It’s me, Mario!” In the German one version, Mario is voiced by Pratt’s German voice actor Leonhard Mahlich.

The film will be released in the USA on April 7, 2023, in Germany probably a day earlier on April 6. The animation studio Illumination also produced “Despicable Me” and “Minions – In Search of the Mini-Boss”. The series was last released in cinemas in 1993 with “Super Mario Bros.”, and there is also a Japanese anime film from 1986.
