Olivia Newton-John died of complications from breast cancer in August 2022. Despite the serious illness, the singer stayed in the studio until shortly before her death and worked on a new album: “Just The Two Of Us: The Duets Collection (Vol. 1)”. Numerous prominent voices can be heard on the duet record – including Cliff Richard, Paul Anka, John Travolta, Barry Gibb and Mariah Carey. The album will be released on May 5th, 2023. Now the first duet from the collection including video has been released: “Jolene” with – how could it be otherwise – country legend Dolly Parton.

The video shows the two singers together in the studio. Dolly Parton begins by saying to the camera, “I’m so excited to be collaborating with Olivia Newton-John, one of my favorite musicians. We’ve always been very close over the years… I’m just so proud to be a part of this duet project where she sings one of my absolute favorite songs that I’ve written which is ‘Jolene’. And she says it’s one of her favorite songs, so why not do a duet on one of our favorite songs?”

In a statement, the 77-year-old country singer said the recording session of “Jolene” was the last time the two friends saw each other before Newton-John’s death. “I loved every moment I got to spend with her,” Parton said. “I have always been inspired by her courage, her tenderness, her willingness and her determination. I can’t wait to hear the album; and, Olivia, may you rest in peace. You left a place that no one else will ever fill.”
