Why the holiday pay is on the decline in May

May is the traditional month to receive the holiday pay – a statutory allowance of at least 8 percent of the annual salary. But fewer and fewer employees will automatically receive double salary. The personal choice budget – where you determine yourself when you receive your allowance – is on the rise.

Payrollers see that. “With the government, water boards, provinces, municipalities, the judiciary, energy, water, banks and insurers you now have a personal choice budget (PKB)”, sums up Joke van der Velpen, manager of legislation & regulations at HR service provider Visma | Get up.

“And more and more employers are giving their staff freedom of choice when they want to receive the extra salary to which they are simply entitled. That seems like a very good thing to me

Gas price drops by more than 5 percent

The decline followed Russian gas supplier Gazprom’s attempt to reassure buyers that they can continue to pay for gas without violating Western sanctions.

The large stocks of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the warmer weather in many European countries also resulted in lower gas prices.

The price for gas on the Amsterdam gas exchange, which is a benchmark for European prices, fell by more than 5 percent to 96.50 euros per megawatt hour. In April, the gas price briefly dropped to about 90 euros per megawatt hour. That’s almost the level before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, on February 23.

Editor’s recommendation

Wilco Polinder (38) from Harderwijk is so fond of football that he wants to visit all 2900 amateur clubs in the Netherlands. He is currently touring Drenthe.

For Wilco, a football field is much more than a patch of grass with white chalk lines and two goals on it. It’s pure romance, he says. He is supposed to be a ground hopper , the official term for fans who want to visit as many stadiums as possible and soak up club cultures. In the case of Polinder, it concerns the sports parks of Dutch amateur clubs.

When he has no family obligations and is free from his work as a bus driver in Utrecht, he travels into the country with a notepad and photo camera. Usually there is a volunteer present to open the gate. Nothing in Drenthe surprised him as much as VV Weerdinge. † And then suddenly: what the fuck
