Founded in the UK, inspired by India. chaYkra is a London-based wellness apparel brand founded by British-Indian sisters Priya and Divya. The designs combine British style and Indian joie de vivre and are ethically manufactured in India from fair-trade organic cotton.
origins
The brand was founded in 2014 out of a desire to do good, to give back to India for giving the gift of yoga to the world, while promoting the feel-good factor. With both sisters having experience of stressful corporate jobs, they realized the importance of a balanced lifestyle and time to de-stress through activities like meditation and yoga.
chaYkra reflects the founders’ British-Indian identity and is committed to ethical practices and positive energy. The brand name is derived from the Sanskrit word chakra, which stands for the energy forces in the body. The seven letters reflect the seven chakras of the body, while the Y stands for both yoga and you and helps to achieve inner balance.
development
Combining breathable comfort and style, the wellness clothing brand offers a wide range of yoga and loungewear apparel and accessories, while supporting sustainability and fair trade manufacturing. chaYkra’s signature pieces include yoga tops and bottoms, as well as meditation bracelets and yoga mats.
The label’s factory is certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and products are made from organic Chetna cotton, which is fairly traded and fully traceable. In addition, chaYkra ensures that all of its workers are treated well and paid fairly.
“We seek to stay true to the energetic spirit of yoga by embedding that philosophy in our business fundamentals and bringing it to life through the design of our garments,” the company’s website reads.

Current
chaYkra products are available worldwide through the brand’s own online shop www.chaykra.com. Retailers also include online marketplace for sustainable fashion Project Cece and stores like yoga boutique Total Chi on London’s Baker Street.
