Charli XCX offers another glimpse into the world of her upcoming album with a new B-side: “Playboy Bunny” is a cheeky pop-punk track intended as a counterpart to their current single “SS26”.
“The B-Sides are kind of tied to some of the songs that come before the album,” the pop star explained in an Instagram video on her b.sides account. “The reason these two songs belong together is because they’re completely opposites in a lot of ways – and that’s the core of it,” she said, adding: “It’s kind of a mirror… there are very specific sonic things that are completely opposite to ‘SS26’ and I think that’s what makes it a good B-side, a good pairing.”
As Charli noted, the video was shot the day after filming the “SS26” clip — and she was “honestly pretty hungover lol.”
Only on vinyl and Instagram
Because it’s a B-Side, “Playboy Bunny” is only available on the Instagram account and as a limited edition 7″ vinyl. “The B-Sides will never come to streaming platforms,” Charli confirmed in the video. “While working on the album, I made a few songs that felt like part of the album universe, but that I knew would never end up on the album – so they became the B-Sides,” she explained, describing the purpose of her new Instagram account dedicated to those tracks
Earlier this month, Charli released her polarizing lead single “Rock Music” and just one day later revealed the accompanying B-side “I Keep on Thinking Bout You Every Single Day and Night” on her dedicated Instagram account.
