The federal government handed out some 66 billion euros in subsidies in 2023, but hardly knows what happened to them. That is the painful conclusion of a report presented in Parliament. The researchers themselves are surprised by the chaos they encountered. “We did not even receive answers to certain questions from some government services.” There also appears to be little control over the spending of all that tax money.
