Chantal Janzen and Eva Jinek cause anger among readers of de Volkskrant. It has been hotly debated for days whether she and her Ukraine TV action colleagues were not too white.
The TV stars of the NPO, RTL and SBS joined forces on Monday evening to collect money for the victims of Putin’s war in Ukraine. A day later, de Volkskrant published a critical reader letter from Mr. Niek from Amsterdam. He believes that the presentation team was far too white.

Mr. Niek thinks it is good that money has been raised, but: “We are still white-oriented in this country. Delighted in their most beautiful dresses, the presenters were ready for us. Thus we saw shine; Britt Dekker, Chantal Janzen, Wendy van Dijk, Dionne Stax and Eva Jinek.”
These women are too identical, he thinks. “Five blond white women with eyes as blue as the ocean. This can’t be true in 2022, can it? We have so much talent in the Netherlands of color that this was felt as an insult to a significant part of the population.”

Niek wonders what the underlying reason is. “Does the Dutch donate more if a white woman asks? Or is the talent of colored Dutch people still misunderstood by the TV world?”
De Volkskrant chose to put these questions to its readership on facebook and people have been going wild there for days now. One finds it a shame that all presenters were white, the other does not understand the problem. And both camps now call each other rotten fish.
Woke bullshit
For example, Ms Sanne thinks there is ‘woke bullshit’. “Traditionally, these kinds of programs are done by the ratings guns and media celebrities.”
Mister Marcel doesn’t know what he’s reading. “Wtf is this for item. Bunch of failed moralists. Focus on the end result instead of dragging in other matters. It’s great that people let their hearts speak and there was really no less donated if Nikkie de Jager and/or Edsilia Rombly had presented.”
Discomfort with white
Mr Daniel notices that it is mainly white people who are angry about the letter to the reader. “The people who are disturbed by this message are mostly white people. Perhaps because they feel uncomfortable about this criticism, but it is a fact. The submitter does not turn his heart into a murder pit and I understand this emotion very well.”
And Mr Ronald: “It’s about time the Netherlands woke up! That the Netherlands is no longer WHITE (probably never was!).”
