Chantal Janzen and Edson da Graça will wear subdued black clothing during all audition episodes of the comeback season of The Voice of Holland. “That is a conscious choice.”
RTL 4 has published the new press photos of The Voice of Holland and, according to TV authority Tina Nijkamp, they show that the presentation duo Chantal Janzen and Edson da Graça will be dressed in subdued black during all audition episodes of the program. Or, as Tina calls it in her podcast: “Sober black.”
Gloomy black
It’s quite gloomy, Tina thinks. “He still has a white T-shirt underneath. And that means that I think they are going to make a very modest start with The Voice, so that they are not going to blow the whistle and say: ‘Oh well, the most watched talent show ever is back!’ So I don’t think so. So I don’t think it will be done so loudly.”
“That is evident from those clothes, I think. You can say: what do I care about those clothes? Well, Edson and Chantal wear those clothes during the first eight episodes of The Voice, because there are no fewer than eight blind auditions.”
The same clothes
Why do Chantal and Edson wear the same set for eight episodes? “At every talent show, the presenters and jury members wear the same clothes during the auditions. This is because there are different recording days at a talent show,” says Tina.
“If a lot of talent has come along one day and not the next, then it is easy for the makers to cut it. If you want to do something from one recording day to the last recording day, then it is easier to cut than if everyone wears something different every day.”
Wise choice
Would Tina have also done this during her time as channel boss? Yes, she says. “I think it is a very wise choice. I have also seen Chantal in much more striking clothing during those blind auditions on The Voice and that is very distracting, because then you spend the whole time looking at: what is she wearing? And then it distracts from the candidates.”
She concludes: “That is by no means the case now. It is very neutral and I think that is a good choice.”
