Change to FC Schalke 04? Ulsan Hyundai’s Lee leaves national team for medical check

Draw attention to the Olympics

Schalke 04 could be active again shortly before the transfer deadline and sign Dong-gyeong Lee to reinforce the attacking midfield. The 24-year-old from Ulsan Hyundai has been associated with the second division team for a few days, now the South Korean Football Association KFA has confirmed that Lee left the national team’s training camp in Dubai to complete a medical check at a German club.

Lee, whose contract runs until 2023, was considered a candidate for a move to the Bundesliga last summer after attracting attention with strong performances at the Olympic Games. At that time, several clubs from the German upper house are said to have actively sought Lee. But there was no obligation. At Schalke he would be the third external signing after central defender Marius Lode (28) and Andreas Vindheim (26).

The homegrown player has been part of Ulsan Hyundai’s professional squad since early 2018 and has so far played 86 games for the K League 1 representative, in which he was directly involved in 21 goals. After making his debut for the South Korean national team in 2019, he celebrated his biggest success to date last year with the AFC Champions League title.
