The Tour de France this year offers plenty of excitement again – and a change in the day off. There is a good reason.
The Tour de France takes place over a period of three weeks. And as always this year, rest days for the bike stars around Jonas Vingegaard, Tadej Pogačar, Remco Evenepoel and Mathieu van der Poel are planned. However, the first day of rest is not Monday, but a Tuesday – and the professionals have to wait a long time for their first break.
Why is that? This year is the first day of rest, not the first Monday in the tour period, because it is July 14th. This is the French national holiday and is reminiscent of the storm on the Bastille on July 14, 1789. In order to be able to celebrate the national holiday with a stage, the professionals of the Tour de France only pause on July 15th.
Not only the cycling stars have to divide their strength well, especially since it goes into the mountains on Monday.
