Chanel turns the banks of the Seine into a catwalk: flowers and Parisian chic

For the French fashion house Chanel, the banks of the Seine in Paris have become a huge catwalk. On the pier of the famous Parisian Bateaux Mouches on Tuesday morning, models presented the floral and Parisian chic-inspired haute couture collection for the coming autumn/winter. The cobblestones along the banks of the Seine were painted in different shades of pink and the guests, including actress Clémence Poésy, director Wim Wenders and Vogue boss Anna Wintour, sat on a long grandstand with a view of the Seine and the Eiffel Tower.

The show was opened by longtime Chanel muse Caroline de Maigret, who wore a long black tweed coat with gold buttons. The classic Chanel bags were replaced by simple raffia baskets with flowers, which came in different sizes and set the theme of the show. Flowers could be seen as elaborate embroidery on tops and dresses and gave the designs a particularly feminine look.

For this collection, creative director Virginie Viard had in mind the image of the “sensitive and bold Parisian” who strolls along the Seine in elegant strappy sandals and flat straw hats – nonchalantly and casually, even if the occasional pink cobblestone causes her to stumble. (dpa)
