S(real) tile from times gone by. The passion for fashion vintage continues to claim victims, not only among ordinary mortals, but also among members of families royal. The latest to show interest in the collections of the past was Alexandra of Hanoverin the front row of the show Chanel Haute Couturewhere he showed off a suit very special. Not only because it was presented on the catwalk by Karl Lagerfeld over thirty years ago, but because it belonged to the mother Caroline of Monacowho had worn it on two different occasions in the the nineties.

A suit-style dress in the unmistakable shades of black and white thus becomes a common thread between mother and daughter, between Alexandra of Hanover, Caroline of Monaco and Chanel.

Identikit of a timeless dress

Unveiled at the fashion show Chanel Haute Couture Spring-Summer 1990/91, the look brought back into the limelight today by Alexandra from Hannover seems not to suffer the passage of time. Characterized by a silhouette reminiscent of a coat, her dress is enriched by a white collar, with golden buttons and give a reason red which decorates cuffs and pockets. Kaiser Karl had also combined it with a wide-brimmed straw hat and perforated leather gloves, renewing the charm for that aesthetic black and white symbol of the French maison.

Guest at the fashion show Chanel Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2024Alexandra from Hannover decided to give as a gift a second life for the dress kept in mother Carolina’s wardrobe. The sheer tights and the leggings made it contemporary and sophisticated mules with a sharp tip, which add precious centimeters to the figure, guaranteeing a glamorous and feminine touch. The outfit is completed by a bag with timeless charm, obviously signed by Chanel.

First in 1990, then in 1993, the same dress was photographed wearing a Caroline of Monaco. Grace Kelly’s daughter had preferred a more romantic and classic look, choosing as accessories a hat decorated with the camellia symbol of Chanel, two-tone pumps, pearl earrings and a white glove. Two different ways of showing off a simple yet very refined creation, yesterday and today. In the name of a mother and daughter united by a passion for fashion.

A special bond

The dress sported by Alexandra from Hannover renews the detail bond of affection that unites Chanel and the Grimaldi family. Caroline of Monaco and Karl Lagerfeld, in fact, met in 1973, immediately establishing a friendship that lasted fifty years. From his debut at Chloé to the great success achieved by Chanel, Lagerfeld has always been able to count on the support of Carolina, who used to wear her creations. A passion also passed on to her daughters, starting with Charlotte Casiraghilong-time ambassador of the maison.

Last December, in the front row of the fashion show Chanel Métiers D’art to ManchesterCharlotte Casiraghi herself had caught attention in a three-piece tweed suit with crystal profiles, shown off a few weeks earlier by mother Carolina.
